About the event

The first Solent Buoy Challenge will take place on the 19th April

The aim is to collect as many points as possible by passing or rounding marks in The Solent and its approaches.

 

Times

The Challenge will start at 11:00 and finish at 15:00. Only marks passed or rounded within this time will be counted.

 

Marks

All marks used must be listed in Zones 1 to 7 of the Solent Mark Designations 2025 list provided by the Solent Cruising and Racing Association. Each mark may only be used once except 43 Little Ship Club which is unrestricted but must be used at least once. If 43 is used more than once another mark must be used before returning to 43 Little Ship Club.

 

Rounding and Passing Marks

The side of passing or rounding a mark will be the opposite side to a straight line drawn between the previous and subsequent mark. Points Each mark rounded or passed will count as 1 point except number 43 Little Ship Club which shall count as 2 points

 

Scoring

Regular marks are worth 1 point and can only be scored ONCE. Mark 43, Little Ship Club buoy is worth 2 points and can be passed multiple times BUT another regular mark MUST be passed in between.


Finish mark 3U, Gurnard must be passed within 100 yards at a bearing of 000 degrees heading in a westerly direction

 

Result

The course followed must be entered on the Declaration Log provided. This will be used to record the total points scored. This total will be divided by the LSC Handicap to determine the adjusted points scored which shall be used to determine the results. Completed Declaration Logs must be posted on the LSC-Solent Buoy Challenge WhatsApp Group or submitted to the Challenge Duty Officer by 17:00.

 

Saturday Evening

Skippers to Contact Shepherds Marina Cowes to arrange berthing. Skippers are also encouraged to talk among themselves to out a way to toast the day.
