Service Description

The RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster theory course is an advanced course which builds on knowledge gained on the Day Skipper theory course. The course is aimed at sailors who are looking to undertake more complex passages either offshore or at night. The course provides all of the shorebased theory skills necessary for candidates who are seeking to undertaken their Coastal Skipper qualification or YachtMaster exam. The course is run from our central London venue by our expert team of instructors every Tuesday and alternate Saturdays from February through to April. The course covers the following topics: position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge including secondary port calculations, navigation in restricted visibility, Admiralty publications and electronic position finding equipment. The taking and interpretation of forecasts, plotting of weather systems and weather prediction. Students are shown how to use this information when planning and executing passage plans. The International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea are dealt with in detail and you will also learn more about yacht stability and safety offshore.
