Service Description

Designed for beginners, prospective crew, and boat owners looking to build practical deck confidence, this introductory two-evening workshop focuses on foundational knot-tying, traditional line handling, and essential deck work. Guided by experienced instructors in a relaxed classroom environment, you will master the mechanics of securing warps to cleats, Samson posts, and bollards under load, coiling and heaving mooring lines cleanly, and executing neat sailmaker's whippings and heat-sealing to protect your rigging from chafe, UV damage, and wear and tear. Full Syllabus: • Essential Knots & Line Handling: Mastering foundational knots, bends, and hitches (including the bowline, clove hitch, figure-of-eight, and sheet bend) until execution becomes second nature. Deck • Mechanics & Mooring: Securing warp to deck cleats, bollards, and Samson posts under tension; coiling, heaving, and stowing mooring lines safely. • Marlinespike Seamanship: Executing neat sailmaker's whippings, heat-sealing synthetic line ends, and inspecting lines for chafe and UV damage. Course Inclusions & Equipment: The course price includes an advanced splicing practice kit—complete with Dyneema/braided line samples, fid sets, and splicing needles—which you keep for ongoing rig maintenance. Non-member registration also includes a complimentary 1-month temporary club membership, granting full access to clubhouse bar and dining facilities to help you integrate into the Little Ship Club community.
