Service Description

The Little Ship Club ocean navigation course is presented for: - anyone who wishes to learn about celestial navigation, ocean weather and passage-making; - sailors who intend to make ocean passages; - sailors who wish to obtain Maritime & Coastguard Agency qualifications in due course. Being able to fix a position out of sight of land, using a sextant, an almanac and the time-honoured techniques of astro-navigation is enormously satisfying, generates new interests and puts coastal navigation in a new perspective too. The course also covers ocean meteorology, long-distance communications and ocean passage planning. Guest speakers are drawn from the Royal Navy, the world of short-wave radio and the Royal Meteorological Society, with subjects covered to a higher standard than that of the RYA course. The price of the course includes a working sextant and an almanac, both of which you keep, and a North Atlantic gnomonic chart kit for passage planning, only available through the Club.
