Service Description

Take your navigational confidence to an advanced level with comprehensive instruction in offshore passage planning, complex tidal calculations, and night pilotage. Hosted at our Thameside clubhouse in Central London, this evening course is built for experienced skippers preparing for ambitious coastal voyages, cross-Channel passages, or formal RYA Yachtmaster practical assessments. Meeting weekly at our clubhouse, you will tackle advanced seamanship topics that go far beyond daylight coastal cruising. You will master secondary port tidal calculations, analyse complex weather synoptics, plan blind pilotage strategies for restricted visibility, and evaluate electronic telemetry alongside traditional chartwork. Taught by seasoned offshore mariners, this course equips you with the sound judgment and technical rigour required to command a vessel safely in demanding offshore conditions. Full Syllabus: • Advanced Position Fixing: Secondary port tidal calculations using time/height difference curves, tidal height interpolation, and complex tidal stream vectoring. • Blind Navigation & Pilotage: Executing night pilotage, light identification, clearing bearings, and navigating in restricted visibility. • Radar & Electronic Integration: Target tracking, AIS integration, GPX route planning, and pairing digital bridge telemetry with paper chartwork. • Meteorology & Traffic Rules: Deep-dive analysis of synoptic charts, ocean weather patterns, wave forecasting, and detailed IRPCS interpretation for Traffic Separation Schemes (TSS).
